I'm a girl who loves love, any kind, and all kinds of love. I fell into this privilege that I now get to call work (pinch me) on a dream backpacking trip to Europe. I packed my passport, some clothes, my hopes and all the imagination that I could think of for what was about to come....and of course a brand new camera (which I had no idea how to use, but convinced myself that I would once I crossed the Atlantic). I had bought my brand new camera to document this exhilarating and full of possibilities chapter in my life after graduating from college in San Diego in 2007. Thinking back now, that trip changed my life in ways that I could not have even contemplated before I turned in my boarding pass and walked onto that plane. It was on that trip that I discovered story telling, seeing moments appear and disappear right in front of me, realizing the magic of a child grabbing for their mothers hand or the pure joy of two people exchanging a quick kiss and going on with their day because they exchange that same exact kiss day after day, and this elderly woman who I will never forget, the woman walking down a street with so much pride on her face and her eyes still sparkling and me me wondering if this was the same street she had walked up and down her whole life (secretly hoping that it was) because her face and the joy on every wrinkle will stay with me forever. Europe thought me many lessons, but mostly it thought me to notice people, really notice people and their stories, and that has been the most englightening and life altering lesson I carry with me to this present time in my life.
For the past 8 years, I have been telling stories, stories of moments that define all the lives I have had the pleasure to witness and photograph, stories that are bigger than me and that make me so aware of just how fortunate I am to walk the path that life chose for me. Time after time, it is these stories and these people that my heart falls in love with over and over again. My heart is filled to its own capacity with all the individuals that have stepped in front of my lens have chosen me to be the one to be their storyteller and I could not be more fortunate to be the girl behind the camera.
I want to tell more stories, I want to tell your story, lets do that together! xoxoxo, Maria
